Tea-Shot Earl Grey Decaffeinated

Earl Grey tea, a blend of black tea flavored with oil of bergamot, is renowned for its distinctive aroma and taste. The decaffeinated version retains these characteristics while providing a caffeine-free alternative. The preparation of Earl Grey decaffeinated tea requires attention to detail to ensure optimal flavor extraction and enjoyment.

To prepare Earl Grey decaffeinated tea it is recommended to use approximately 2 grams of tea leaves per 200 ml of water. This ratio allows for a balanced infusion, ensuring that the bergamot flavor is prominent without being overpowering.

Water temperature is a critical factor in tea preparation. For Earl Grey decaffeinated tea, the ideal water temperature ranges between 90°C to 95°C (194°F to 203°F). Using water that is too hot can lead to bitterness, while water that is too cool may result in a weak infusion. It is advisable to bring the water to a boil and then allow it to cool for a minute or two before pouring it over the tea leaves.

The steeping time for Earl Grey decaffeinated tea should be carefully monitored. A steeping duration of 3 to 5 minutes is recommended. Steeping for less than 3 minutes may not fully extract the flavors, while steeping for more than 5 minutes can lead to an astringent taste. It is beneficial to taste the tea at intervals during the steeping process to achieve the desired flavor profile.
